Historic Route 66 Loop Tour
The Arizona portion of Route 66 offers some of the most memorable spots on the historic road from Chicago to Los Angeles. With nicknames such as the “Mother Road”, “Will Rogers Highway”, and “Main Street of America”, this amazing road brings back fond memories or yesteryear. See the roadside scenery, motels and restaurants that inspired many movie scenes…. including the row of buildings that inspired “Radiator Springs” in the animated film, “Cars”. This tour leaves Phoenix on a loop that takes you northeast through some of the most incredible Sonoran Desert scenery on the way toward Payson and onward to Holbrook. This is where our time on Route 66 begins. From Holbrook we head west through Winslow where you might find yourself standing on a corner with such a fine sight to see. Then on to Flagstaff and Williams before heading back to Phoenix. Add an hour to the day, and enjoy a Western Style meal in Williams, which also has a row of Route 66 memorabilia shops. One of my favorites has everything from hot sauce to jerky to gourmet sodas, some of them made by aliens.
